Dr. ing. Ciprian Diaconu

Electricity Highways in Europe from Smart Grid perspective

Mr. Ciprian Diaconu graduated the Polytechnic University of Bucharest, Energy Faculty (1986), and in 2009 obtained the PhD title in power network management. In his 25 years’ experience in the high voltage power network domain, Mr. Ciprian Diaconu has passed through successive stages in RENEL and CONEL, these last years being member in CNTEE Transelectrica Directorate, Deputy Director General of the Technical Management, technical and engineering coordinating director, asset management director, technical division director coordinating the maintenance, operation, planning and grid connection activities. Currently, Mr. Ciprian Diaconu is Member in the Supervisory Board of CNTEE Transelectrica SA - Company managed in dualist system, the chairman of the National Romanian Committee of CIGRÉ, member in ENTSO-E Development Committee and in the Study Committee CIGRÉ B3- electric substations.

Dr. ing. Carlos Julio Dupont

Ideas related to the user needs and ideal infrastrutucture and techniques organization for a better transformer maintenance including on-line monitoring information

Carlos Julio Dupont, D.Sc. was born in Caçador, Brasil, on March 02th, 1962. Graduated from Universidade Federal do Paraná in 1986 in Electrical Engineering. Holds a M.Sc. from COPPE - Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (1992) and an D.Sc. from COPPE - Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (2003). He started his research career with Cepel – Centro de Pesquisas de Energia Elétrica - Brasil in 1989 working with circuit-breakers and power transformers. Nowadays coordinates the development of DianE System, a corporative system for Analisys and Diagnostic of Substation Equipment. He is member of CIGRÉ and convener of the Cigré WG A2.44 – Transformer Intelligent Condition Monitoring, since Dez/2010.

Dr. Bruce Pahlavanpour

Maintenance of in Service Insulating Oil and revision of IEC60422

Dr Pahlavanpour is senior Technical Co-ordinator working for Nynas Naphthenics. Previous to that he was professor of petroleum chemistry at Cranfield University working for National Grid UK, University lecturer and head of Environmental studies department. Dr Bruce is world recognised expert in the filled of insulating oil. He is chairman of BSI insulating fluids GEL10, UK representative and chairman of several IEC and CIGRE committees and IEC2006 award winner. Bruce published over 380 articles, reports in international journals, seminars, technical reports, Nynas transformer oil hand book, two chapters in CRC Rubber hand book (CRC publication, USA ) and one chapter in petro Analysis 87 (Butterworth publication UK).

Umberto Cosmai

Wind induced conductor motions on EHV and UHV transmission lines. Control and monitoring methods

Umberto Cosmai is an international independent consultant with more than 50 years of experience in overhead transmission lines. He worked for ENEL as laboratory engineer and researcher for 23 years, then he joined the company DAMP, as technical director, where he designed vibration-damping systems for overhead transmission lines up to 1000kV, including special projects for long rivers and channel crossings. He performed educational activity and authored several national and international papers and three books. He also co-authored the book titled “Wind Induced Conductor Motion” edited by EPRI Palo Alto CA. (USA). He presented seminars on overhead conductor vibrations and performed field vibration measurements in 30 Countries worldwide. He is member of TC11 WG09 of IEC and chairman of CIGRE WG B2.25. For CIGRE he authored two Tutorials, ten papers and co-authored five Technical Brochures. In 2012, he received the CIGRE Technical Committee Award for his contribution to the work of SC B2.

Dr. ing. Magne Runde

"Reliability of high voltage equipment" based on the work of CIGRE A3.06

Magne Runde received the M.Sc. degree in physics and the Ph.D. degree in electrical power engineering from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Trondheim, Norway, in 1984 and 1987, respectively. He has been with SINTEF Energy Research, Trondheim, Norway, since 1988. Since 1996, he has also been a Professor of high-voltage technology at NTNU. His fields of interest include circuit breakers and switchgear, electrical contacts, power cables, diagnostic testing of power apparatus, and power applications of superconductors. Dr. Runde has participated actively in several CIGRÉ working groups under Study Committee A3, including being secretary and also convener of WG A3.06 "Reliability of high voltage equipment".

Christopher Markman

State of the art for robotic inspection of generators

Mr. Markman is the Product Line Manager for GE’s Inspection & Life Extension Services. I&LES focuses on the inspection of power generation rotors and stators for steam and gas turbines as well as generators. Upon graduation from Vanderbilt University Mr. Markman was commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy where he served onboard a Nuclear Submarine and qualified as a Naval Nuclear Engineer. After six years he left the Navy to join the New York Power Authority as a Shift Engineer and Shift Technical Advisor. Later he worked in both maintenance and training. Joining GE in 2000 he took a position as the I&LES black belt working on a number of quality issues. He then took a sabbatical from I&LES, working in generator and steam turbine repair. In 2010 he rejoined I&LES as the Product Line Manager.
